Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff is in final negotiations to offload part of his ownership stake in the Mercedes F1 outfit.

This transaction estimates the Mercedes team at £4.6bn – an unprecedented figure for an F1 team – after the McLaren team was appraised at £3.5bn in a change of corporate structure in September.

The Austrian executive, who holds one-third of Mercedes F1, plans to divest a shareholding approximately 5%.

The 53-year-old would stay on as team principal and chief executive officer if the sale goes through.

Shareholder Breakdown

The other shareholders in Mercedes F1 are Mercedes-Benz and industrial group Ineos, who each also own a third of the enterprise.

An official representative said: "We will be making no comment on the matter. The management structure of Mercedes F1 will remain unaltered, and each shareholder are dedicated to continued achievements of the brand in F1."

Valuation Growth

This arrangement would represent a substantial rise in worth of Mercedes F1 after Ineos Group bought its share for £208 million in 2022.

This surge demonstrates the expansion in market values of F1 teams recently due to the increasing appeal of the sport globally.

This was also seen in the success of the F1 movie featuring Brad Pitt, which debuted last summer and has grossed more than $630 million (£458 million) at cinemas worldwide.

It is the actor's top-grossing film and the most successful sports film to date.

Present Standings

Mercedes are runner-up in the constructors' championship, behind McLaren, with three races remaining in the current championship.

Their lead driver British driver George Russell has won two of the 21 races so far and is in fourth place in the drivers' championship behind McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, and Red Bull's Max Verstappen.

Mercedes won a record eight straight team titles and seven drivers' titles, six for Lewis Hamilton and one by Nico Rosberg, from 2014 to 2021.
