Whenever a significant awards ceremony approaches, there’s always a clamor for the addition of new categories to honor unsung work and fill the passions of fans with niche passions.
A fellow writer has already made for a horror game category. That would rule. The same goes for strategy board titles, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist when I prioritize just as with other blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification backing this proposal stands as crucial above others. The demand is this: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.
Categorizing Game Types
Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and it will always start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason film award organizations don’t do it. However, it represents an essential concession for the industry of video games, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them one unified medium.
To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to be recognized, and to ensure all game types to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.
Present Award Structure
Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these award types recognizing Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these six categories effectively encompass a lot of ground, allowing placement for most games within them.
Different situation exists for brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Examine these examples from outstanding current releases, all very different: the architectural riddles from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. What category would fit them within current classifications? Nowhere, that’s where.
Acknowledgment Issues
Numerous examples exist excellent brain-teasers released every year that have no home during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging independent game categories.
- One classic puzzle game received no recognition in any category in 2014
- A different innovative game received no nominations in 2019
- Well-received sorting experience received no acknowledgment recently
- Limited numbers of logic titles managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications
Importance of Logic Titles
Frequently they represent modest productions, but the art behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles count as most engaged experiences globally maintaining this status for an extended period.
The legendary block-stacking game challenges famous sandbox experiences for the title of best-selling game of all time; it also contends as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and engaging across multiple categories.
Recommendation and Reasoning
Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. You could fill a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude many worthy titles.
Restating the point, these are games without proper classification at major gaming awards. Puzzle game makers operate at the hard edge interactive creation, creating some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Similar to film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
