The much-anticipated second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel debuts on Prime Video this week, and fan speculation has been widespread.
The first season introduces a diverse group of personalities residing in the afterlife, sets them at odds with songs about their clashes, and establishes tense rivalries and emotional bonds that drive audience devotion.
The community's expectations for season 2 vary widely, but certain themes recur frequently: Could Angel Dust break free from Valentino? Will we find out more about the binding agreement affecting the enigmatic Alastor? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Naturally, I don't make the show with audience demands as the main goal," the showrunner stated recently. "However I believe that me being a devotee of the series implies there's a lot of it just naturally. I also am eager for these things, and I want some of these things to happen, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator reveals her big-picture plan is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That could imply fans have to be patient for some of the major resolutions — but they may be surprised at how fast season 2 moves, and how much of what they're waiting for happens this season.
"I feel like people are going to get a lot out of it," she adds. "We get some firsts. I think we get some incredible reveals, some fascinating origin tales, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience additional musical numbers from the previously silent cast members."
She's certainly aware of the theories and desires about season 2 — especially in the form of fan bingo cards.
"I've seen a few fans make a prediction grid about the new season," she says. "Obviously I won't share it, but I've actually done some of them, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season launches on the streaming service on Oct. 29.
